Time to start looking around for some bargains, 'Black Friday' is still a few days off, but there's already been 'pre-Black Friday' bargains around for several days.

I needed some new walking boots (walk 2 - 3,000 miles a year!) and waterproof overtrousers (Dog wants walking 5 to 7 times a day whatever the weather) and I have been watching prices for some time as I usually go straight to Go Outdoors and use their Price Guarantee to better competitors by 10%. Got both (down from £206) for £145 this morning and that £206 was for both on special offer (still £255 at the likes of Cotswold Outdoor).

Now we just need a new washing machine and cooker, plus a camera for our daughter to take on safari/uni field course in Africa next year. And possibly another smartphone as Mrs Scrungee's keeps turning off one of the (dual) sims which I find infuriating, so we have a stack of codes ready to use in conjunction with any good offer as soon as it appears.

May seem like lots of money, but I don't believe in scrimping on boots and waterproofs, and everything has been saved/budgeted for and if there's no bargains we'll make do until there are.

      Bargain!!
Good point about Black Friday deals; youngest son is busy planning his spending around deals.

I thought the walking boots were such a bargain I bought another pair, that's me sorted for several years. £115.20 in lieu of around £190'ish seems too good to pass up on.

Got a new washing machine today with £130 off, glad we didn't get tempted by a £100 off an inferior machine a month ago. But in the meantime I've had to repeatedly press all the buttons and keep spinning the dials until it powered up, last couple of weeks all the lights have been flashing but it still worked.

We have Black Friday sales here too. I go sometimes, it is a zoo of crazy people packed like sardines in a can, shoving shopping carts piled up with bargains. I look upon it as fun, others look at it as an exercise in stupidity. I have gotten some good buys before. Not going tomorrow, there's nothing I want.

I don't go to Black Friday sales (or on the net) as my middle name is Scrooge and I don't buy anything. Bah Humbug! :old:

A slight correction:- I buy two pairs of walking shoes each year (Scarpa) and always get a good deal (don't wear any other shoes - even to weddings or funerals :rolleyespink:).

Interesting thing happened the other day. I was at a local farm that sells their own beef and they had a special offer of 2kg of lean minced beef (ground beef in the U.S. :)) for £7.99. It's always excellent quality and a good price and when I asked for some they asked whether I wanted 2kg or 1kg. So I asked the price of 1kg and they said £3.50!! I didn't think it would be right to ask for 2 x 1kg so just bought 1kg. When they gave me the beef they also gave me 6 large farm eggs to try for nothing. Result! :yahoo:

The beef was superb and I made a Spag. Bol. with it. Haven't had the eggs yet.

A piece of useless information (I'm good at that :snork:):- It's called Black Friday because it's the time of year that they expect to go from being in the red to being in the black.

Used 3 codes that stacked to get the phone I wanted with a total of £36 off and that's my lot, couldn't find a cheap enough cooker offer so will keep on looking.

I normally always have 2 pairs on the go, 1 'best' and the other 'knackered', always getting the same boots means I can occasionally make a semi-knackered pair out of all the old ones. I save all the old bootlaces and used them for supporting giant tomatoes.

I'm a bit posher than you :heehee:. I have three pairs on the go. The 'knackered' pair is for gardening (can't wear wellies or most other gardening shoes as I have an allergy to the compound in them), then I have an 'everyday' pair and a 'best' pair. :snork:

I do replace the insoles every so often. :dbgrtmb:

Well got little Mowgley's Xmas presents all sorted this year yesterday!
No running around looking for last minute presents like normal.
He'd wrote his list to Santa early this year so we knew what he wanted (maybe his last year for believing in Santa ;))
Saved around £97 on 5 things which is over 1/3
So Mrs Mowgley can be spoilt this Xmas

I was looking at insoles in a shop and was asked if I wanted 'anti-shock' ones, so replied "are they the ones impregnated with deodorant?" but it went over the assistant's head.

Beware:- this is the day they expect the most account hacking (hundreds of millions) so be careful what you click on.

Fake, cloned, websites are going to be common today so if you must buy things and they cost over £100 then make sure you pay by credit card and not debit card. The Section 75 Act only covers the use of credit cards.

If it seems too good to be true then it almost certainly is!!!

@Scrungee doesn't have to worry because he's probably already getting the things for nothing. :lunapic 130165696578242 5:
