Being a disorganised person, when I moved I lost the labels on 6 plants grown from cutting of my black and red currants. Has anyone any idea about how to tell them apart, other than waiting unilt they fruit next year, as they should be pruned differently? This year I picked off the fruit to let the plants grow a little.
    Ever hopeful.......

Sorry Liz, I havent got a clue, but if it makes you feel any better, I know of commercial growers who have made this sort of mistake on the grand scale! :(

Liz, the only way i can think of is to smell them the blackcurrant has a strong smell of its own. redcurrants are a bit like gooseberies not much smell. As you know bc's fruit on 1 year old wood and I'm like you i take cuttings and every few years replace old with new, lovely smell to the leaves in early spring.
