Have had real success with black violas - really pleased, because it's quite difficult to grow violas from seed, and the black ones are even more difficult. It was a packet that I was given at Chelsea Flower Show last year, and I planted the seeds in a pot and half forgot about them - then suddenly there was this wonderful show of black violas!!
Will try to figure out how to get the photo on here.......
Also had wonderful success with Heartsease (viola tricolor). Had one plant from Jekka's Herb Farm, when it came it had one small flower on it and now there is a real spread of flowers.

    I LOVE my violas!

Hi Leonora, pleased for you that you had such sucess! It's nice when things pop up that you've forgot about :) I agree, a pic would be nice?
Dunno if anyone remembers my Son, Robin, hijacking GC with my profile last year? (He'd watched me on here plenty and wanted to get involved). He grew viola wittrockiana 'Black Moon'

We've sown the seeds from the original plants and we noticed them popping up yesterday, it'll be interesting to see what colour they are?
I think viola tricolor are really special pretty little things, I filled my terracotta pots with them last year, and have scattered their seeds again, to fill in all the gaps. Left it a bit late, but nevermind.

PS I wanted to put the latin in italics, but I can't see the options to edit the font, can anyone give me a clue??

    Hi Helen.
I thought when I posted the photo that it had come up a bit too big, lol. and I've just read Daisies announcement, whoops. Sorry folks!
Thanks for asking, Robin is cool. He's got exams at the moment, so he's busy revising.
He likes cookery at school, and he's grown some simple herbs on his windowsill. We "harvested" them last week, and we're drying them out at the moment.
I'll let him know you asked about him :)

Sorry if the photo is too big, i've just spent over 2 hours off & on reducing it on PB & it's showing larger than ever on here so i'm going to post as before cos that was never a problem. Please let me know if i'm mucking things up & how to change it. cheers
