Its growing already! I am treating it with 'Pond Balance' is there anything else that I can use.
We were told to buy 'pond weed' and that should cover the surface of the water which it has, but that has got it too. I desparate not to go through another summer pulling the stuff out everyday.

I've always rated pond balance - worked for us! Is it blanket weed that barley straw is recommended for?? Think so, but not sure - must check.

I have had a pond for years and have tried everything..............For me barley straw is the best thing I have ever used.Put some in NOW,this gives it time to do what ever it does.My pond is pretty clear most of the time.I have more problems from the Heron.

    Still off thread, sorry-

Hi Roders, you can't take the picture direct from gardenerscorner.com to our site, you have to save it into your computer, then upload to [eg] photobucket, THEN to us using the format. Hope
    a]this is right
    b]It helps!
    :D

Just found out last night that barleystraw fixes nitrogen by leaching cyanide into your pond!! Apparently the boffins were concerned as they didn't know what BS did, so they withdrew it for a while and investigated it. Once they found out, they more or less said, "Well, that's ok, then!!" and it's available again!!

    A Good Post.
Barley straw is a natural thing so for me definitely worth a go. I have had BlanketWeed for a few years and it reocccurs but dissapears on its own eventually. I do remove some manually. Question:- How long would you leave barley straw in for, when do you replace it, and does it remove problems totally.
