Sunday looked a promising day so we decided to venture to Norfolk and have a look at Blickling Hall gardens. It proved to be a mistake because Rob forgot his raincoat and it persisted down with rain as soon as we arrived. He made a beeline for the bookshop while I had a quick chufty round. The daffs were sp**** compared to my lush planting but then I don't have hundreds of acres to plant up.
I did take a couple of shots but was worried the camera might get water in it. Oh well we'll try again when the rhodies are out... I did end up in the bookshop too and bought a crime novel to keep me in suspense. In the words of my youngest grandson "love it"

These pollarded trees looked like aliens above the wall - I took a picture of them last autumn when they looked like twiglets. I think I prefer them with hair .........!

ended up in the book shop! wasn't there a nursery where you could buy loads of plants!

sorry you had such a wet day, like the alien trees, we sometimes get a similar effect when we cut willows down.

blickling is a beautiful place, don't visit it enough, very good head gardener, paul. quite a feat when they cut them. when your next looking at gardens in the area make sure you visit east ruston old vicarage, on the coast. oh and of course Holkham, but i would say that!

I've only just noticed the stars strongylodon. How funny...... I'll have to watch what I say in future.
The best time for Blicking is when the rhododendruns are out in early May. The colours are stunning but it's such a lovely place anytime's a good time but watch the weather!
I'll have to give Holkham a look sometime. Is it open all year?

To add to Petal's lovely photos - this is a place well worth a visit - even though the rhodies were nearly finished and the summer splendour not yet started.

Just watched Alan Partidge on UKTV GOLD, he went to Blickling Hall to see Bono :D , he told his Russian girlfriend it was where Bono lived .... As they drove into the car park, I saw the sign 'Blickling Hall' and knew I'd seen it somewhere, then remembered ... 'GardenersCorner' :D
