My little old lady friend asked if me and my hubby could go and dig up her pampas grass. My big mouth answered before the brain engaged and I said yes. What a nightmare. We broke a set of cutters and a fork in the 2 1/2 hours it took us to sort it.

I'm sure someone's prob gonna tell me the quick easy way to remove one lol.

Then I had to cut the grass when I got home so that's me out for the next week :(

I've never had to remove one but we use heavy duty hedge cutters to cut it to about 18 inches high and then to reduce the size I get husband with a sharp spade to split it and dig out the excess.

Word of warning - wear long sleeves because they are horrible to handle.

I have heard that burning it makes it reproduce at a terrible rate. I took the hedge cutters to mine then poured straight weedkiller on it. That was easy:)

Burn it...to get rid of the vicious blade like leaves and then dig it up.

I love pampas grass....used to burn mine down every year to promote the new growth the following year, after I had removed the fronds of course.:thumb:

Neighbour had a huge clump of pampas grass that he has now killed off by pouring week killer on it. something pretty horrible because it has affected the crab apple tree nearby. this is a well established tree and I have been pciking up brown dead leaves off the ground (by the bucket load) now for the last 4 months. He only acknowledged the other week that they had poured week kill (some systametic root killer ) on it.

If he kills that crab apple I shall be very very cross with him.

Two and a half hours is pretty good going LMRR, I dug one out about three years ago and it took most of one day. The leaves and stems have still not rotted down on the compost heap yet, burning does get rid of the dead and dry leaves but as Daitheplant and others said, there really isn't a quick or easy way.

There is a quick way, but it may not be available to everyone:) We talked the local village garden commitee into digging it up to plant in their garden, for the delight of all. It didn't take me any time at all:D:D
