The estate agent came over this morning to value our bungalow - it's more than we were expecting so we're going to see if anyone is willing to stump up the cash.

Selling primarily to move to a smaller building but with a larger garden.

Someone mentioned self build - using a 'kit'. So you purchase the land - and a builder constructs the bungalow of your choice on that land using the 'kit'.

Sounds good in that we could get a bungalow of our choice on a plot of land of our choice - but just wondering if there are any drawbacks? Or are we stark raving bonkers?

    Anyone taken this approach before?

    Ta

Don't you have to construct it for it to be 'self build'?

technically yes - but you can sit back and let someone else build it themselves - so from their perspective it is a self build...

Make sure you get another two estate agent valuations . As they can be a little flattering with the valuations to get the business . Also if you look on the land registry site , this will show the actual sell price of similar property's in your area to get a real valuation. Bungalows are always in demand as they tend not to build them nowadays - so good luck with your sale :blue thumb:

There is a series of programs introduced by Amanda Lamb called 'My Flat Pack Home' which are very interesting. We have seen them on the repeat channels like the UKTV ones.

Should be straight forward clanless, my brother has done a 'self-build' using a similar system. He was able to customise the design to get the layout he wanted, all the walls etc were pre-made in a factory. Then a builder comes and assembles it all.

Or as my brother did, buy a very dilapidated old house and pull it down. It will be just as cheap as buying a virgin plot.
