Hi, gandygardener, and welcome to GC!

I have several bonsai, including an ivy I started from a seedling at least 12 years ago.

At this time of year you should be getting new leaves if the particular tree is deciduous. However, if you are losing old and new leaves, and they are soft and not dried, I suspect you may be overwatering it. I would only water when the soil dries out.

A question? Is your bonsai indoors? That is the biggest killer of bonsai. Trees are an outdoors species and need fresh air. If it is indoors, I would move it outside in a sheltered location.

When I lived in Bucks they lived outdoors all the time, but I was probably milder than you and I had a walled garden.

    Hi again, gg!

Good move putting it outside ... just keep an eye on it until it picks up.

If you are only watering when the soil is dried out, perhaps you should increase it slightly as it gets accustomed to it's new home.

Also keep it in a dish / saucer or the like so unwanted creepy crawlies don't invade it!

    Hi GG.

Are you giving it tap water? If so, has it been more chlorinated lately? If so, then you should use bottled water.

Perhaps giving it a little fertilizer may help.

Do you know what kind it is?

    Can you post a picture?

Oh, dear me! It looks sadly like my twin Acers, for which I hold not hope.

Yours looks like one of mine ... your first picture that is ... a Ginseng Ficus (Ficus Retusa), also known as the Banyan Fig or Taiwan Ficus.

I'll have to photograph mine and post later as at the moment I have a Portuguese visitor from England who surprised me this afternoon.

I'll come back to you on this. Maybe someone else may help ... there are only two or three of us here that I know of into Bonsai.

Hi, gg, I'm back. Here is a picture of mine ...

... and it does look the same as yours, so I would say it is a Ginseng Ficus (Ficus Retusa), also known as the Banyan Fig or Taiwan Ficus.

By the way, mine doesn't live outdoors in the sunshine but does live outdoors in the shade ... this was for photographing purposes.

I'm at a loss however on how to save yours ... sorry!
