Had a look through the forums and I know there was some talk about starting a book sticky but cannot find anything although there must be some post somewhere on specific books.
I am looking for books on Clematis, Fuchsia, Canna & Lilies. I know on the clematis society website there are 29 books being reviewed but not really much help in as much I need someone who uses a book and does actually find it helpful rather than just pretty pictures.
Just need good basic info on general growing ,taking cuttings, pruning, overwintering etc.

I know there is tons of stuff on the web but I am still old school and although I have a computer full of advice I have copied & pasted to a folder nothing is the same for me as a book.

Agree, not only for getting reliable information but if I've found it in a book I seem to remember it more easily. Because I have a good memory for the general look and layout of a book I can usually find information again if I need to whereas because websites are in a state of constant change it's more difficult to visualise again.

A good selection of Clematis books there Armandii for me to look into. I look in Sue Ryder every Tuesday but no specific books on gardening just general ones.
Library ,that is somewhere I have not been for years. I may have to reapply for tickets as mine are sort of buff colour card and I am sure they would put the book ticket inside my ticket and then keep them both until I returned the book!!! Showing my age I think:old:

Trogre - if you aren't too proud - have a look on Amazon at the second hand books. I have had some wonderful bargains in really good condition for one penny or some such silly price, plus £2.80 postage.

I very rarely buy new books, finding most of my collection in Charity Shops or Second Hand Book Shops. I've even found 150 year old gardening books in Charity Shops, and their instructions, advice, and methods are still good for today.:coffee::snork:

I had suggested we start a section of the forum on books, but that seems to have disappeared

ABE is a very good source of cheap books

Libraries have moved forward ... just a little :heehee:
Because I live in the sticks now, I order my library books online ... then I get an email telling me they are available to collect from the mobile library, which stops just a few yards away. The longest wait I have had for the books was .... 8 days
I'm impressed with their set-up but equally impressed with the range of books available. Best of all ... it is FREE

Thanks for the advice. I do not mind secondhand books at all. In fact I go metal detecting and must have around 40-50 books ,all secondhand. That is apart from the Roman coin series,5 in series and still waiting for No 5 to come out ,£65 a book!!!!! At least I have 2 years to save up in between volumes!!!!
I have ordered one Clematis book from Abe but did not know Amazon sell secondhand books so must have a look
