Just done third cut of the season and noticed mats of small leafed plants .

Checked books out and it seems to be Borage. Not too sure.

Where did that come from, and how can I get rid of the stuff?

I don't mind the clover, in fact I encourage it, but this is taking over!!

    Hi Paladin,

Without seeing it, it's hard to say for sure what you have in the lawn - it may be Borage or something else. I've noticed that there seems to be a lot of Selfheal about this year, and it seems harder than usual to get rid of.

However, if it's a broad leaved weed, you'll be able to remove it with a selective weed killer, if you're happy to use one - it might take a few applications though.

    Hi Will.

Had good look around new neighbours garden and found she has planted two Borage plants!

They were put in last year so it seems they have seeded across to my patch.

My garden is over 200 ft long and they are growing in my lawn near where hers are.

I grow in a cottage garden style and have much clover in the lawns, I suppose the only way to get rid of the borage is to use a "feed & weed" and loose the clover too.

I only hope no one accidentally uses Round up on the parent plants!!

    Thanks.

    Borage it is then :D

I haven't ever had to treat Borage so I don't know how effective a weed and feed would be. Personally I prefer to do the two things separately, using a broad spectrum selective weed killer. I wouldn't worry too much about the clover though - anything short of Agent Orange tends to leave it very much alive and kicking...
