[IMG] This weekend I found the first Borage flowers. They are truly a beautiful flower. I always let a few grow around the garden, this one is in the raspberries. As a child I can just remember my grandmother crystalizing the flowers for cake decoration.. [IMG]

My borage is not blooming yet. Borage is a native of central and southern France so its going to find our climate a bit daunting. It all depends on latitude and temperature. I have a friend in Carlisle who still has daffodils out in her garden!

[IMG] Stingo it has bloomed every year in this garden for the last thirty something years that we have been here. I am told by my neighbour who has lived there for all her life & she is in her 80s she cannot remember when there wasn't any.. I will collect seed this year if you like.. [IMG] It self seeds like mad..

borage is out now everywhere..you can add the leaves to drinks ..and the flowers as asalad garnish..the seed from borage contains gamma linolenic acid and is used as an alternative to evening primrose oil..for hormonal problems and skin complaints ..borage is grown as a crop for its oil for the pharmaceutical drugs and cosmetic products..
