Of all places, the 99p shop had packets of English bluebell bulbs (5 per pack; packaged in Holland).

I snapped up all they had (all 5 :rolleyespink: ) and I plan to put them in the "copse" end of my garden - which isn't quite a "copse" yet, but I'm working on it :heehee:

Now, if I have 5x5 (25 bulbs total) would I be better off planting them as five groups of 5 bulbs, or, planting all 25 together? :what:

While I wait for the "copse" to develop and mature, most of it is in full sun, would they be ok in full sun? :noidea:

I can't help being skeptical and I'm a bit worried they may not actually *be* English bluebells. Would it be better to plant them up in pots initially until I'm certain (come Spring) that they are indeed EB's and then transplant them after flowering into the ground? :dunno:

Any, and all, advice gratefully received; TIA

Over the last couple of years, Mum, I've bought around 600 English Bluebells along with around 800 Snowdrop.........but always "in the green" as I have tried planting bulbs but never had any real success. I plant them in groups of 3 or more as they seem to grow better in company!!! I would give them a soak in tepid water for a day and then plant them as you want to and when/if they appear in Spring you can i.d them then and, if not to your liking, you can dig them up!! At the bargain price you got them you've got nothing to lose.:snork:

Thank you, ARMANDII; especially the tip on soaking :dbgrtmb:

Do you think they would prefer a slightly wetter environment or err more on the side of dry-ish? (We're talking clay soil but one half gets wetter than the other).

PS: So, what do I do with the one left over? :dunno: (25/3=8 r 1 )

i've got bluebells all over the garden.
I've dug up and given away/thrown out thousands over the last 25+ years and I still have about the same qty. They just keep multiplying.
Any I plant, toss under a hedge or whatever always seem to flourish.
They're as tough as old boots, so personally I wouldn't worry about whether they are in the green or bulbs. They also need ZERO care.
My soil is generally good, with areas that are pretty dry.
In the Rose garden the soil is much more like clay. The Bluebells thrive anywhere.

Well mine are planted under a medium sized Acer Brilliantissimum on a sloping part of the garden

I garden on sandy soil with around 300 to 400 feet of sand under the garden so it drains very quickly. plus the Acer drains the soil of water so it is a dry area there. The Snowdrops and Bluebells seem to like it though as I guess in a forest where they grow well as it's also dry. I've got basically layers of Tulips, Daffs, Snowdrops and Bluebells on top of each other and they flower nicely over a period of time.
