Glider tug plane AFAIK a Piper 25-A, originally built for crop spraying,
which now belongs to the RAF Gliding and Soaring Association.

Swift Aerobatic Glider, not the Fox as I previously thought, the Fox is a 2 seater, the Swift single seater.

Thanks Bob, I was on the East cliff by the cliff lift. The weather was better than Friday, but you can tell how hazy it was by the fact there is no visible horizon; in the last set of 4 pics the horizon should be visible in the shot of the Tutor, which is just above where the horizon should be, and of the sailplane where the horizon should be about a quarter of the way down the pic. The effect of the glare off the water also made things a bit iffy as you can see from the shot of the glider tug plane.

Thanks again for pictures Mike. I guess you was lucky with the weather as there been so many shows cancelled this year. I was at the Yorkshire show in 06 there was storms and I was amazed there was any flying at all. I did not go in 07 but the weather was even worse! Cancelled this year to allow time to improve the drainage on site. And looking for good things in 09.

    @ Gort

Minolta 5D DSLR, the lens was a Tokina 80-400/f4.5-5.6. The camera is just over 2 years old, got it as an end of line when Sony bought out the Minolta camera business from Konica Minolta. Only 6Mpixels which proves you don't need as many as they try and cram in now, unless you want to print massive posters, about the only thing loads more pixels are good for is producing more electronic noise. The lens is much older originally used on a Minolta Film SLR.

Gortinaroe not been keeping up with recent compacts so can only give some general guidance, in terms of value for money, Panasonic generally have about the best reputation followed by Fuji; Sony, Canon and Nikon are also in there, but you may find you pay a bit extra for the name. There is not a lot to choose really, you may well find that the one with the specification you like turns out to be too large or too small for your hands, or have the controls in a position which you don't like, make a short list of those which meet your specification then go to a dealers and try their demo models to see which one suits you best.

If possible go to a good independant dealer rather than Jessops or other big chains, the big chains don't always have knowledgeable staff, just "shift this weeks buy which gets most comission" bodies.

If you intend to buy on line it's still worth looking at local dealers stock, it helps after you've read reviews and looked at pictures. Even wandering round Comet/Argos etc looking in the display cases can give you a beter idea of a camera than any picture.

Yes I've looked at Panasonic, but they have the quirky set-up of having to take the battery out every time you need to charge it

I use an Olympus FE210. It is fine for my needs. I carry it round in my handbag and was fully prepared to drop it, break it or lose it but it is still going strong after about a year. It wasn't too expensive (well under 100 quid). It uses 2 rechargeable batteries which last a while with the correct charger and it fits into the smallest purse .

Nothing quirky about that, it's standard on most cameras, I carry 3 spares, rarely need one though, one charge is good for at least 500 pics. I only had to change once over the 2 days of the festival, and that was well over 1000 pics. I got 2 extra ones a couple of weeks back, saw them on offer for £4.99 instead of the £40 Minolta used to want.

I will try and upload some more air show pics tomorrow to Fotopic and post a link here. I 've got quite a few more from the 2 days including some of helicopters in unusual attitudes. Thanks all for your interest and comments.
