Not sure if anyone has seen the knitted garden mentioned in the press but I took my daughters to see earlier this week and thought people might like to see some photos of it. It truly is really clever (on at Bournemouth library until June 4th and then going to other places in Dorset apparently)

That is just brilliant, I love it..!!! :D Hours of work gone into it all, but that is wonderful.. Is it done by a local knitting circle or something..? Oh no I have just read about it.. What a super idea & carried out so well... Thanks so much for sharing it with us.. :hapfeet:

many of them are local knitting groups but people have been sending bits from far and wide, and still are apparently. it is throughout the library, hope they find a permanent home for it eventually, would be nice if it could go nationwide really because it is so beautifully done. people have knitted with all sorts of wools and yarns, including yarn one lot made themselves from plastic bags or something. I thought it was the sort of thing that could brighten people's day!

oh and I should add that some of the groups had special needs and were day centres etc, there was a scarecrow by someone who was 91 and others were brownie groups etc. there were grape vines growing up pillars, oranges, lemons, strawberries and tomatoes in the decorative bushes in the library and hanging baskets and vases of knitted flowers throughout.

:yay: It would be great if it did go nationwide in some way as it is something that is not only cheerful to look at, but also gives off a feel of real cheer.. Presumably because it was all made with such love & cheer & that is just through looking at the photos..!! :hapfeet: Also knitting is something that is a fading art now as it is so cheap to buy knits these days & also young people today on the whole are not so interested in these sort of crafts.. I have loved all these traditional crafts all my life, I have shown my children & grand children & do still knit, sew, crochet, rug make, write, draw, paint & many more, plus my beloved garden... :yahoo:

:sunny: A great idea whoever thought of doing it & coordinating it all too, so they didn't end up with ton's of carrots or something.. :D

they never thought it would be so popular, if they had then they would have tried to get a shed knitted they said!

I haven't knitted since I was a child, bought some needles not that long ago and some cheap wool just to try and get going again but not got round to it yet. I do lots of sewing though and hope my girls will when they are older, I learned off my mum who made lots of clothes when we were little. I spend a lot of time making clothes for their dolls and teddies at the moment (hence needing to learn to knit again so the toys can have jumpers too!)

Thank you so much for posting this Keinnaf. I've loved looking at it.
I have little great nieces who live near Bournemouth. I'll let their parents know about it as I'm sure they will want to take them to see it.

Alice - it is on at the main Bournemouth library in the Triangle until June 4th and then it will be at Kinson library sometime over the summer but not sure of the dates for that, I am sure they will love it

It is wonderful, my sister who lives in Bournemouth & is 87, sat for weeks (probably months!) knitting flowers of every shape & colour, as she is,nt very mobile, it certainly gave her an interest in life & is enjoying looking at them now. Thought this site may be of interest to some of you. Sue.
