Official onion seed sowing day by all accounts, I've got my seed , just need to get my compost made up, propogators at the ready and hangover remedies in place! :(

Going to try and give Vegmandan a run for his money next year :)

I used to grow Kelsae onions, but have not bothered recently.

I had a few good ones in the 80s, but nothing near record size.

My allotment is now overgrown with exotics and apart from a few beetroot and spuds, along with leeks and ordinary onions/shallots, I dont grow the veg I used to.

I always thought Boxing day, although the traditional day for sowing, a bit early.
My plants were always ready to go out far before the weather was right.:)

Really only for "THE GIANT ONION BRIGADE" sowing at this time.

You would need greenhouse space with lots of heat and especially special lighting.

Be patient and sown early next year!

    Cheers

Makka, RUBBISH. It is NOT just for the " Giant Onion Brigade " at all. Anyone wanting to grow onions from seed should sow them now. And they need warmth, not so much light, at this time.

whilst I am attempting to grow some "giants", I'll also be sowing some "normal" varieties. My seed trays are all prepared and I'll be out in the greenhouse after lunch :D

This has thrown me now-I was told to sow at the end of February my red onion seeds-I have them in sow date order so as to get it right-it being my first time-along with parsnips and chives-which is it?

Oh and I am growing to eat them not weigh them-maybe that helps, not sure.
