      Flowers were carried in spikes around the stem (like a Paniculata [Hydrangea]), rather than more sparsely (like, to pick an extreme, an English Bluebell). The photos Google is finding have stems that look more sparsely populated? What do you think?

      I've had a go at cropping a panicle:

      I guess that means that the individual flowers at the bottom of the spire have longer stems than the ones at the top, whereas Campanula normally all have the same length and hang as "bells" off the main flower stem, but with each inidivual flower having the same length stem?
