    Hi there :)

Do my broad beans require bamboo supports, (its my first time with beans)

The plants are about a foot long and they are "red epicure" if it makes any difference.

    Ta.

Hi Steve.....Never found a need to support Broad Beans. I planted them 4" apart in double rows and about 8" between them.

    I'll rephrase that Steve:D
I set a line across the plot as a guide and using a dibber planted the seeds either side of the line in a double row spacing each seed 4" away from the next ,front ,rear and sideways.
Set the line again 12" away and repeat. I used to cover an area of about 20'x30' .
As I was the only one here that ate them I only picked ones growing above 3'. Each year my plants got bigger by using the uneaten beans for seed.:thumb:

Steve G - From my experience it all depends............................variety of bean, type of soil, exposure to high winds etc. In some gardens I have not had to stake: in others I have. The only thing is to wait and see how your beans survive! The best compromise is a bamboo at each end of the row (more if a long row) and a couple of rows of string which should be sufficient to prevent wind damage.

I've always had to stake mine but not to get intense about it. Otherwise they just fell over or got all deformed!
