    Hello all,

Just wondering if anyone knows a variety of broom that is scented?

I recall going to centre parcs when I was a youngster and the air was filled with a really beautiful scent. At the time mum said it was the broom. There was a yellow type and a creamy white type and I can’t remember which it is.

Id like a scented one for the back garden, but dont want to buy the unscented type. I’ve tried researching but none of the plant websites mention scent?!

    any thoughts? :)

Not a Cytisus but Spartium junceum (Spanish broom) is very heavily scented. Can be kept to a reasonable size by an annual shearing over.

      Hi Snorky,

How much would you like? I'm joking of course. It is wild but scented. The neighbouring horses field is covered in it and it's now right up to my boundary. It self seeds easily so I have to mow new shoots off my lawns.

On reflection, if you've got a sheltered spot, Cytisus battandieri is supposed to be pineapple scented. I can't say it's scent is overwhelming, but it's much prettier all year round than Genista, with silvery, furry leaves.

Oh @noisette47 is right - cytisus battandieri is lovely. And though it's supposed to be a bit tender, I had one in an exposed Nottinghamshire garden that flowered well. The scent is more like those strange pineapple cube sweets than real pineapple

That's gorgeous. Remember that thread about people not liking yellow flowers? That's stunning.

Thanks @Clueless 1 v2. It's glorious when it's in full bloom. It starts to bloom here just as the gorse flowers are on the wane.

I do remember the thread and as it happens yellow is my favourite colour. :)
