I have been having a bit of trouble with brown rot on my apples although not too many are affected. Last year I cleared up the leaves and removed any mummified apples and burnt them. I don't use chemicals unless I have to but if needs must. Any advice would be appreciated.

It seems to have been a bad year for it this year. First time we have ever had it on apples. Now the ones in store are rotting in from the inside too. We usually have fruit till end of Feb, looks like they will not keep till Xmas this season.
It may help to use a Winter wash on the trees in December. I also have sprayed before with copper sulphate based solutions. I think these are allowed under organic rules.

hi, Palustris, I will certainly try the winter wash. I had a little on one tree last year but I have it on all this year. A problem shared. many thanks.

This is disconcerting - I plan to have a couple of espalier apple trees next year - these diseases sound nasty!
