Despite (or maybe because of) the lousy wet summer last year, our sprouts have provided our best ever crop and have kept us supplied all winter.
I grew - Peer Gynt, Green Marble and Brigitte. The first picking was Peer Gynt on 8th October, I've just dug up the last of the Green Marble and the Brigitte look like they'll keep us going into the start of April.
I also grew "Fuego" red cabbage for the first time and they have also been excellent - really solid and heavy - I've just lifted the last two (needed to dig the plot)and have stored them in the shed.

Good on you Dave. The pigeons got ours - I'm going to net them this time round.

How do you manage to stop your cabbages getting eaten alive by caterpillars and slugs??

Timecharger - The last few years I've laid matting under my brassica beds and then covered them with insect (and pigeon) proof net. Apart from a couple of sprout plants that had a very minor dose of whitefly I've had no problems with bugs.

David- Doing it all again, and trying to do it even better is what it's all about :D

Well done Dave. We grew our first sprouts last year and have just finished them. I have a packet of seeds to sow again this year. As to the caterpillars I picked them off by hand every day and gave them to the chickens.
