Can this happen, my friend says it can but I'm not so sure, I think it's some kind of pest.

Yes it can happen but unlikely this time of year. A picture of the problem would be helpful please Jimbo.

There is a Buddleia Weevil that can do damage along with it's larva plus Leaf Hoppers can do similar damage. I'm not sure if there are caterpillars of Moths that can do the same damage but I've got a feeling that I've read something about that somewhere:scratch::doh::snork:

Thanks to Sheal and ARMANDII for your responses. We had a major storm here, about ten days ago, during which we had hailstones for about 2/3 minutes, we don't know if this damage was done during or before the storm. No other foliage in the garden had this damage.
Here are a few pictures to show you what I mean, in picture 2 there are more damaged leaves which are just about visible in the background.

Hmmm, not sure about this. The shape of the holes do look like hailstone damage in preference to pest damage. Was it just a few leaves affected and were other plants in your garden damaged?

A couple of months back we had hailstones here, they damaged my wooden shed and it looks like somebody has painted small white spots all over it.

About 20% of the leaves had damage, some had a fair bit of damage whilst others were only slightly affected, to the best of my knowledge no other plants were harmed.
Sorry to hear about your shed:)

If it was hailstones I would have expected more damage not only on the Buddleia but on other plants, so I suggest an inspection of the underneath of leaves just to make sure there are no pests lurking. :)

My shed is a lot tougher than your Buddleia, it will survive with a new coat of paint! :heehee:
