    Hi all

Anyone got any ideas why my buddleia seems to be making no attempt to flower this year? It's not just mine, I can see one across the way from garden at that one is the same, and 100 miles further north, my dad has reported the same thing.

I'm sure they are usually in bloom by now. Could it be the proper winter that we had that's set them back a couple of months?

Too early yet Clueless. It's July. Mine are still putting on lots of thick growth after hard pruning in March

I pruned mine back last autumn and it has grown back massive, just no sign of flowers. I'm sure they normally flower earlier than this round here, but I could be wrong. Its just that several people round here have all remarked about it in puzzlement as though it is unusual.

I'd agree with Granny, too early yet. None round here are flowering and several in other gardens are regular as clockwork. Mine has loads of new growth too after pruning earlier this year and it was only planted last year.

Ok. Maybe I'd remembered wrong. I have to admit I've never taken that much notice before so I could have been looking back with buddlejia tinted glasses:)

Thanks granny and Aaron, I'm reassured now. I'll be patient. I have to admit I look at the newly planted flower bed with all my flowering perennials in there and sometimes feel a bit disappointed that there are not many flowers there yet. Then I remind myself that we're only just out of May and most the plants I chose are for mid to late summer. I guess the hot spell we just had must have got me in mid summer frame of mind.

Yes, too early even for here. July to Sept is about right.

Glad I found this, was wondering the same thing! I pruned mine slightly later this year, it's nice & green but no buds yet!

                Hello and welcome Ellen:)

Too early yet for buddleja. Is yours the 'standard' Buddleja Davidii or one of the cultivars? Buddleja Davidii doesn't bloom til the back end of summer. Some of the cultivars are a bit earlier, but I wouldn't expect them yet.

Hi Clueless! :) To be honest, I have no idea! I'm learning as I go with a garden, having come from a REALLY basic garden at our previous house. The buddleia flowers were all brown and seeded by the time we moved here so I don't even know what colour flowers I'll be getting :)

Don't forget that everything seems to be 3 to 4 weeks late in the garden anyway, so it wouldn't surprise me if the Buddleia will be late as well. Mine are still only about 2/3rds of their normal height at the moment but look pretty healthy and as has been pointed out it is still too early for the normal time of flowering.:dunno::snork:

There's certainly enough leaves on mine, so it's not struggling :)

Saw one in Lyme Regis today with no flowers, and that's on the south coast on a south facing slope. Everythings behind this year.
