I wasn't sure where to put this, but bugs are wild, and I certainly was when I saw what it had done to me.

On Saturday something bit my leg.

By Sunday night it looked like this.

By Monday night it looked like this.

I'm going to the doctor's tomorrow morning.

Nice blister. I've not seen a bite have this effect, but it looked like the redness round it was settling by today.

Have you any idea what it was? You are clearly sensitive to whatever this is - and so get your doctor to advise what to take prophylactically should it happen again. Possibly an anti histamine?

I haven't a clue what did it, and there has been no redness or inflammation, just swelling and this blister. It is still growing.

last time I reacted to bites they were from simulids, I ended up having an interesting exchange of emails with a professor at the Natural History museum over it.

I have had exactly the same bite last year and this year as well just from one part of the garden something is lurking..the scar is still their on it from when i got bitten in june..I used arnica on mine i keep some in the fridge in gel form you can buy it from the health shop its brilliant for all types of stings including nettle rash..it soon sorts it out..but its a horridble bite and it stings and itches as soon as the fluid drains from the blister it gets sore then and is very irritating..

Couldn't stand that it would have been popped on day one if it still persisted I would then amputate. :D

The doctor said it is an allergic reaction to a bite of some kind, but there is no sign of an infection.

So no pills, just keep it bandaged for the time being and go back if it becomes inflamed.

Wow, Rich, that is a hell of a reaction!
I saw the post late, so my answer is of no use, but that is a very extended blister, and progressing in time, on the other hand with next to no swelling or redness around the concerned area (which I think would be worse).
It was better to go to the emergencies in a hospital to have it checked immediately, just to be on the safe side.
So, my own personal deduction, is that you have been biten by something unusual (I would be really curious to know by what)or in a very nasty way, (example: the leg was compressed in a boot and the bug was extremely angry) rather than being allergic to the bite.
I would call that a hyper sensitive reaction rather that allergy.
    Good luck !

    Hi Rich
my brother reacted really badly to mosquito bites several years ago and his legs were covered in blisters like that.

He had about 20 of them and he was laid up for three days. Antibiotics did the trick and the blisters went down after a couple of days without any scarring.

hi Kathy3, i think the plant you are referring to maybe this one:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St_John%27s_wort

At the end of the page it tells you that all the pro and con.

But you see, this blister is on its own and quite low on the leg, so it makes me more think of a sting...

    Hi Rich

Two of my friends had similar bites - followed by blisters last summer. One did get infected, the other didn't. (If you see any red veining - go to the docs immediately!!). One of their legs swelled up like an Elephants' and she had a couple of weeks off work - it was revolting!!!!!

There was quite a bit in the newspaper as well. It was definitely as a result of an insect - many thought it could be a type of mosquito that has settled in the Portsmouth area having been brought over in the Banana Boats. It is now spreading fairly rapidly.

Has the doc put you on any anti histamine?

    Hope it gets better soon!!!!
