bugs on my cabbages!

    Anyone know what the best thing is spray wise for keeping white butterflys off cabbges, turnips, broccoli etc

    Netting is the best thing to stop cabbage whites. There was a thread recently here: http://www.gardenerscorner.co.uk/forum/showthread.php/cabbage-whites-22805.html?p=347332&highlight=debris+netting

    On the above link, have a look on Kristen's blog, he's got some very detailed photos/description on how to do it properly :gnthb:

    If you're too late to net, then its easy (but time consuming) to wipe off the butterfly eggs on the underside of leaves (they are bright yellow). You can squash the caterpillars by hand as well. I'm not sure about sprays, as I'm not keen to use them on anything I'm intending to eat.

    I had the same problem last year. and read the same thread, after trying to squish the eggs between my fingers just could not keep up with them.
    Can't remember if it was Robert or Freddie came up with Enviromesh , so that's what i typed in ,brilliant; got 6mx4m 29.99 bought 2 .
    Got no probs this year ,(give it a try)
