    Hi,
I am growing tomatoes, chillies, spring onions and lettuce on a sunny indoor balcony but somethng is nibbling at the leaves of (mainly) the chillies. The lettuce aren't very developed yet so haven't been affected and the spring onions don't seem to be to 'its' taste. The tomato leaves have been given a nibble too though.

Is there any sort of natural detterant I could use or wil I have to resort to using some sort of chemical - if so which would you suggest please?

    Many thanks

look up companion planting. some plants have a natural ability to keep bugs away.
good luck. also when washing up or should say after washing up use the washing up water to spray your plants. my uncle just throws the water over them. that can help also

It depends on what the bug is. If its slugs/snails then the easiest thing is to pick them off - same goes for greenfly/blackfly - they are easy to see and squish. If it's whitefly or something smaller then spray twice a week with a weak soapy solution.

i've got whitefly larvae on my chili plants. More worryingly there are a number of larvae on the soil which i want to get rid of as they are clearly up to no good. Any ideas on what they can be and how to get rid of them?

    Thanks

    Richard.

If it's any help, a spray bottle full of water with a small amount of washing up liquid has been working well for me on Chili's, Tomatoes and Spring
    Onions grown indoors.

i'll give that a go. i'd rather use something like that than a pesticide.

I take it you have experienced the same problem?

    Thanks

    Richard.

Similar yes. I had somethng eating the leaves on my chilis and tomatoes, mainly the chilis. The bitten leaves were obvious and easy to spot although I couldnt quite spot what was doing it. So Ive been spraying daily for a week and cant see any more bitten leaves.
