Hi, when do you plant plants for:
    summer
    autumn
    winter
    spring?

and are they meant to come up that year or the next and do they last forever?

    many thanks :)

Hi mgn, it rather depends on the bulb but as a rough guide:
plant spring flowering bulbs like daffs etc in early autumn, September - October.
    Tulips in late Autumn, November.
Summer flowering ones like Gladioli in spring, April.
Snowdrops are best planted 'in the green' (Just after flowering and with their leaves still on - some nurseries supply them like this)

What bulbs are you thinking of getting?

thanks blackthorn, i'm going to write that in my garden diary book!

I was thinking first off of things like daffodils for spring and snowdrops for winter.

I have recently planted 5 packs (gladioli and others) but then i find they have to be planted a certain way up... but was a lesson learned haha.

Was just thinking bulbs would mean I would have flowers without having to think about them. I'm not quite there with the knowledge of plants yet, so looking for the easy options.

    Don't knock yourself mgn !

I've checked your blog. What you are lacking in knowledge is countered by your enthusiasm.

    You will pick it up!

lol thanks, youre right i've got enthusiasm all right - i had to force myself to come in from the wind and do the washing and dishes (why didnt i realise before gardening could get me out of these tasks?? ;))

i may be picking your brains in future as when it comes to doing the concrete raised bit i am going to attempt to grow salad stuff in raised beds - then the fun really begins!
