    What is this bulb?

The Child found it in September loose in the compost area of the Hall she volunteers in, and was allowed to pot it up and take home.

The bulb is quite big and without any covering scales/ papery layer so looks rather like a turnip. The now emerging foliage looks Tulipy, but the bulb doesn't, and they don't really do Tulips in the Hall.

All shall/ may be revealed if it flowers, but I'm just curious to know what it might be.

It looks a bit fritillary-ish to me.

Does the bulb/shoot have an unusual smell? If so and you think of foxes, it might be Fritillaria imperialis. The bulb is usually planted deeply and on its side to flower well.

Looks like a Allium to me , easy enough to taste with a onion smell scratching the foliage/bulb

Looks a bit small for a crown imperial and the leaves are not right but I do wonder if other Frits have that distinctive smell
