People with exotic gardens do you break protocol and plant bulbs that are not exotic for a bit of color in the spring? If so what kind

I always have looked for the more unusual bulb to plant. Does that mean I 've always had exotic.
However, there are just so many and you do have to rely on the more common one sometime.

You could try fritillaria, there is a wide range of tulips some of which look quite exotic in themselves. I grow a number of alliums, scilla and crocuses.

I grow some exotic plants and I have underplanted with unusual bulbs and tubers. No point in going with Crocus, Daffs etc as they are everywhere but less common plants fit in with an exotic theme in my eyes.

      Spring;
Hermodactylus tuberosus (really called Iris Tuberosa but easier to find as Hermodactylus)................

Fritillary are a good suggestion. Snakeshead Frit are dead easy....................

      F.uva-vulpis...............

      My favourite Frit is F.camchatcensis.............

      F.imperialis................

      And F.persica..............

Erythronium was another good suggestion with its interesting foliage. Erythronium "Kondo".........

      E.dens-canis is a small one.............

Alliums come in all shapes and sizes. A.karataviense..............

      Allium sicilum..............

      And A.christophii.............

And for the ultimate spring fun try Asarum proboscideum...............

      Ornithogalum nutans is rather nice..........

Uvularia grandiflora is not bulbous but well worth a spring spot in an exotic themed garden..............
