Back off our jollies and delighted to find some lovely big apples on our young Cox's Orange Pippin tree, blighted with some sort of maggot last year I'm made up that every apple is unblemished this time :)

Cupping them in hand about half on the tree fell off with no pressure, perfect :)

I've been told that Cox's Orange Pippin is a moody apple to grow - not easy.
        Yours looks superb Bilbo,
        Jenny

Thanks Jenny, being a young tree I have had to prop it up just to give it a little help as it has so much weight on one side; well it did :snork:

Loli, yes we had a great time thanks :), no losses in the garden, got back just in time to do some essential watering  :spinning:

Noticed some more had fallen on this ground!, bruised a little so the birdies can have them , but tried some more on the tree and picked another 10 or so :)

              Wonderful looking apples. :blue thumb:

We've found that the apples are a lot earlier this year and have been using cookers for some weeks. Our Cox's look OK so may try one this weekend to see if they're sweet enough. I had to cut down all our Orange Pippins some years ago because they hadn't produced properly for some years - but they were over 70 years old.

The pears are suffering from badly mottled surfaces but the insides are OK. Williams are ready now but another week or two for the Conference (my favourite).

Glad to hear I'm not alone with this one. Have been roasting my Williams pears in butter, sprinkled with a bit of brown sugar and cinnamon on top and no one would know how ugly they looked.
