Noticed this in my local paper. Haggis And Poetry Will Highlight Burns Night | TownLively

Having just been to Scotland, and loved it. Also going to this event. It sounds like a nice evening. and only 20 mins from my home.

Anyone ever attend this before, sounds like its International, and perhaps happens in Scotland .

We went to a small private one many years ago held by my t'other half's boss .... grand fun and love the food. They have a few held here in Algarve and haggis is available in a few shops. I am sure you will enjoy it!

Wait till the Scots get on here ... I am only partial (Welsh/Irish/Scots mix).

as an added bonus, its considered a "Fund Raiser" so will use the ticket cost as a charity deduction for my taxes. yeah. On another link, it says its being held in an historic home. so interesting.

I love it. I hosted my own mini Burns supper a few years ago. The food I cooked that night was yummy.

This year I booked a Burns weekend package at a hotel about an hours drive from here. A week or two later the hotel phoned me to tell me the event has been canceled due to lack of bookings. I was gutted. Where else I will get the chance to wear my tartan waistcoat.

Actual Burns night is Thursday 25th Jan. I think our local pub are doing appropriate food that night. Weatherspoons pups are doing it too.

I had Haggis last week as a starter when we went out for a meal . I really like it , although it may not be to everyone's taste. Never been to a Burns Night and not really a Whiskey drinker....

Ohhhh @HarryS ! Burns Night should be celebrated with Scottish Whisky - not Whiskey, which is Irish.

recall the first time I tried Haggis was the first night I arrived in Scotland. It was at the Murryfield hotel. Waiter said to me be careful its spicy. I tried it, and said, in my head, spicy??? like where is spicy????. anyway it was good. And would recommend that hotel also. The next morning more was offered for breakfast. The next day at another Inn, they had it also. But also blood pudding---I am game, but could not get past the "too much salt" to figure out the taste. So the next place also the blood pudding over salted. I gave up. Continued with the haggis each morning at the different Inns I stayed at.

I always liken haggis to a spicy sausage. I love it. I’ve had it many different forms. I am hoping somewhere I can find the photos of the haggis dish I prepared for the Burns Supper I did.

Scottish like salt. Salt in porridge :uh-oh:

I don’t like whiskey or whisky. I used whisky in the sauce but I didn’t drink it. Apple juice is a good substitute. It looks very similar.

I have a photo somewhere on my pc I took about 13 years ago. It was quicker and easier to borrow this one.
