    hello again guys.

Its that time of year again and im getting stuck into the gardening.

I have a compost bin that has done really well over the last year, the bottom is a sweet grey/brown muck. however, as it gets towards the top of the bin there is more and more unfinished compost.

Now. i need to move this bin to make way for the kids new play house and im thinking of doing away with it altogether.

can i just mix the unfinished compost with the finished stuff and fill my raised bed with it the whole lot? Im not going to be planting anything in this bed until next weekend anyway. But i need to get rid of all of this stuff and prep the bed today.

Thanks in advance for any advice

    Gary

Homemade compost is the best stuff you can have for plants at all stages of growth. If you can move the compost bin to another area then do that and use the 'raw' uncomposted material to start your next batch. All the benificial bugs and beasties will be there ready to start their good work on your new heap. I would never be without my compost bin(s).

    Cheers, Tony.

    Thanks mate.

Yeah, i want to keep the bin. but my garden isnt that big and the kids playhouse is gonna take up a large portion. i may have enough room to put it down the side of the playhouse, but i wont know until ive built it.

So if i keep a bucket of compost seperate, i can use that to start another batch if i choose to. but for now is it ok to just chuck the lot (unfinished and composted(minus a bucket full)) into a bed.

Is there any negative side effects to having half composted stuff in a Flower/veg bed?

Sorry, im a bit of an armature at this.

    Thanks again
    G

Should not be a problem. When we had a small garden I used to dig a trench across the Veg patch and fill it up gradually with material. When it was full (and still rotting down), I threw the soil from the next trench on top. Never had any problems doing it that way. The worms in the soil in your bed will deal with the uncomposted material in short order.
