Bees certainly like foxgloves - but liatris also gives them a buzz

I know they do a great job but they are not a fan of mine frightened of them ever since i got stung when i was about 8 years old,I have learned to live with them with me enjoying my flowers so we are tolerating each other as long as they dont come near me i am fine. rosa

They really won't sting at random as they die when they sting us. I think they only sting when threatened, eg if you sat on one! One of god's better inventions..... [IMG]

    [IMG] Rosa,
Just try & tell yourself of all the good they do & they won't hurt you unless you frighten them....! As Liz says they will die if they sting you so they would rather fly away........ ;) Just watch them for a while. they are truly wondrous insects ..... :D

I do sit and say it will not harm me but iff i am twining the jasmine and i hear a buzz i am away in doors until it has gone, my hubby said to me he cant understand why i have flowers on the balcony when i am terrified of bees and wasps, The bees are not so bad the wasps are another story as once they decide to come near you, thats it im gone from the balcony for the rest of the day, mind i find i dont get many wasps, seem to get more flys thats what i have my fly swat for as they are annoying, The way i am going will have to have one of them suits and head gear that they use for bee-keeping. Ha! Ha! can you imajine that. Have a good day all from rosa

Yes! I can imagine you pottering in a bee suit! I agree with you, wasps are a lot more scary and really are more dangerous, as there are usually more than one and one stinging alerts the others. Even so, their nests are beautiful!

The worst thing with wasps iff you have perfume on and hairspray boy do they go for you, hope we dont get them african killer bees that would be something else for us to worry about, like america are doing.
