I planted some busy lizzie seeds in small pots and put them on a window sill to get them started about 3 weeks ago but as yet there are no shoots. Is this normal for them to take over 3 weeks to start sprouting shoots?

depends on how much warmth they're getting. They'll come on faster in a heated propagator, but if you wait, they'll probably grow anyway!! Have a look at the packet if you've still got it and see what it says there about germination time!
(BTW - did you put a plastic bag over them? It helps) ;)

BIZZY LIZZIES CAN BE SLOW SOME TIMES, NIXONF23 IS RIGHT WITH THE PLASTIC BAG IDEA, OR EVEN CUT THE BOTTOM OFF A PLASTIC LEMONADE BOTTLE AND PUT THAT OVER THE POT, YOU CAN LET AIR INTO IT BY REMOVING THE TOP....

Great thanks so there is still a chance they will sprout into lovely healthy plants! Will try covering them as you suggest, thanks

Aldi are selling healthy little busy lizzie plants in plugs for £1.99 for 24. I bought some last week, immediately repotted them and they're going great guns in the greenhouse despite the ghastly weather.
