A couple of years ago I bought an unlabeled plant thinking it to be a kind of ligularia.

The following spring when one flower spike appeared I found out it was butterbur, an invasive weed which somehow managed to root in the pot I bought.

It looked really good beside the pond with its 30" wide rhubarb like leaves.

Occasionally I would remove a shoot that appeared in the lawn, but it was controllable.

BUT this year it is feeling established. It is currently in flower and new shoots are spreading rather violently.

I think this is a case for paint on glyphosphate at the extremities.

That's the problem, when it behaves itself it looks really good where it is. I just hope I can control it now it has a toehold.

I had the reverse happen to me. some people came and knocked on my door asking if they could take pictures of the very rare wild plant they had seen growing on my river bank as it was almost extinct. when I asked them to show it to me, it turned out to be a cultivated plant I had bought from our local garden Centre.
