Cumbria is having a real bad time at present, floods last November..bridges down for around 5-6 months. Serious coach crash with child fatalities, fellwalkers struck by lightning..

And now a gunman on the loose in west cumbria, with a number of fatalities !!!

One of the areas where police are advising people to stay indoors is where we live and the police appear to have lost him. Helicopters in the sky again over Cumbria.

    Hi Steve,

That's bad news :(. I reckon that he can evade the police quite easily in that area.

I understand that Birdy is supposed to have abandoned his car at Cockley Beck sometime after 11.30 a.m. He would have to be one hell of a fell walker to get as far as you in this time but it's possible he could hijack someone's car.

If I was trying to walk from Cockley Beck to you I would still be walking tomorrow afternoon (but crawling is more likely).

I hope that they capture him soon as it must be unnerving to know that someone like that is on the loose near you.

This is like one is in America ... one reason I left there even though I was workig in criminal law. Couldn't even imagine it would happen in England .. but I left there as well ...
I sure hope I never see that here .... :ntwrth:

How sorry I am for all concerned. Just terrible.
What amazes me is that people as mad as that can be out there, and nobody sees that there is a problem. They don't just waken up stark, staring mad you know.

    That is what worries me!

I think if they put some kind of psychiactric profiling test in place when they gave out gun licenses we would see a lot of difference in the numbers allowed to keep guns!

I think this was probably a case of an unassuming little man who had quietly hated the entire planet for some time. I'm not sure how you spot people like him, to be honest.

Hi Steve, this was tragic wasn't it? Must have been a worry for you. Poor Cumbria has had its share of bad luck recently hasn't it? Such a lovely place too.

Who knows what goes on in the mind of someone that does this? I think to get a gun license you do have to go through some sort of 'approval' although not sure what it entails.

    cheers

I haven't been able to watch the news since the initial break. Just too heartbreaking. Those poor poor people and their families.
