Been thinking about getting some cabbage collars for my brassicas been looking at various ideas including some mentioned on here as well as some on eBay but in the blurb they say they are biodegradable so not going to last
As I have some very used capillary mat my question is can I use the old mat as cabbage collars
    Thanks for looking

Dont see why not, it is just a physical barrier.
As long as it stays flat, just wondering if it might curl up or blow around.

I wasn’t to worried about being flat or blowing around can put stones on it my concern was it staying wet my beds understanding of them was a physical barrier and the eggs dry on the collar causing them to die

I thought they stopped the blighters getting down the stem to the roots.

OK just looked it up, yes the idea is that the eggs dry out.

So think the capillary mat idea would work I can’t see it being much different to carpet cardboard etc
