I have to admit my netting is not up to standard, so I had quite a few cabbage white eating my cabbages. I minimised the damage by picking them off by hand. I've found its easy to squish the eggs before they hatch, but if I miss any eggs the caterpillars are easy to see because they all hang about in one place on the leaf given away by the new fresh holes.

Next year I will get some better netting with no gaps.

You have to keep renewing slug pellets especially in the wet to keep slugs/snails down.

You can use a spray as well, I prefer not, trying to remain 'organic'.

"Next year I will get some better netting with no gaps."

I found one in my debris netting a few days ago, first one this season, no idea how it got in, but my best guess (and I've been expecting it all season) is the "gaps" in debris netting to allow it to have scaffolding poles [I assume] threaded through.

If you are going down the debris netting route next year it might be an idea to plan to sow-up the scaffolding holes as a Winter job?
