These days, I'm on the look out for good soil improvers and found myself reading the blurb on the side of a Vitax pack of calcified seaweed in my local garden centre. Wonderful stuff, it seemed.

A quick Google brought up a mixed response, though. Dredging for the stuff off the Cornwall coast now seems to be banned and it's imported from France, I gather. Other information suggested that it's no better than lime.

Does anyone out there use calcified seaweed or can tell me of their experience with it, please? TIA

I havent used it, although do use seedweed extract which does wonders for tree ferns.

However we were down in Cornwall a couple of weeks back and I got talking to the head gardener at Lamorran (well worth the trip - fantsatic garden) and he swore by it. Although he also said they no longer dredged it locally, but got it via Ireland.

I used to use it when I had the allotment, it`s very good for adding trace elements to the soil.:thumb:

Thanks for the comments. Seems to be quite economical too. I'll get some and give it a try.
