I've been so disappointed with the Nikon P500 I bought last December that I am getting another camera and the Panasonic fz150 seems a far better (if dearer) buy. I wouldn't recommend the Nikon to anyone.

I should be buying the Pentax K5 next month, Strongy. We can swap experiences on how we get on with them:heehee: What went wrong with the Nikon....it seems to have a good write up??:dunno:

I love the look of the pictures I get with my Canon PowerShot. The only trouble is, now that it's accompanied me on a few foreign trips, it's starting to have trouble with the zoom and lighting. I noticed it during my last vacation. I'll probably just end up getting another one of the same kind since it's easy to use. :)

I've got the PowerShot 590IS, Astro, which has been a good compact camera and has taken some good pics, but can't handle the pics I want to take.:snork:

So what was wrong with the Nikon that you didn't like ?
I use a Pentax K10 generally. Lots and lots of weather seals so its great to take out and about. For a pocket camera I use a Ricoh GX100. I find the combination of them both does me fine.
Would like to replace the standard lens on the Pentax but with the price of lenses these days I don't think that is gonna happen any day soon.
If you like taking close up pics of flowers e.t.c. then I guess a camera with a good micro facility is best. Something that can zoom in pretty close.

Battery charging and longevity problems (Nikon know about but do nothing) The extra long zoom is too front heavy requiring a tripod all the time. Shutter lag is poor although write ups say it is good. The macro tends too blur and most images are soft. No thread for filters and the lens motor continually whirrs when zooming during video recording and focusing for stills. The only good thing was the on camera cropping facility.
I have just ordered the Pan fz 150 and will need to practise with it before I go on holiday.

Wow, quite a bit you don't like with the Nikon ! I had a look at the FZ on the internet and it looks a good camera. I like being able to shoot in RAW. My Ricoh compact does and that's one reason I bought it.
Okay, make me jealous, where ya goin' on your hol's ?

Kenya Safari, 'one off retirement special'
My Nikon battery charger is now faulty and the camera won't charge via the pc so it is effectively dead. I am using my old Panasonic fz7 (which is a very good camera), untill I get the new one.

Kenya Safari, wow ! I have had a fascination with Africa since I was a little boy. My dad was in Kenya for quite a while and you can imagine the tales he told to his young son. Being chased up trees by lions :snork: e.t.c. He used to tell me about all the animals and birds and David Livingston was my boyhood hero. On the day of his funeral we had the most almighty deluge of rain I could swear it came straight from the African plains, made me think about new life. I will have to stop now as I can't see the computer screen for tears in my eyes.
make sure you post some pics.

Inhouse Adviser lived in Kenya when she was about 8 while her dad worked there and she has always wanted to go back but never thought she would.
It's a long safari (12 days plus two extra in Nairobi) and will probably need a holiday to get over it.

Folly, 30 is a bit young to retire!!:heehee:

In trying to save £50 by not buying from Amazon or Jessops I ordered from Simply Electronics who I thought were a UK company. Should have checked first as I have just found out they are a HongKong based company with an appalling delivery record and not having the stock they say they have so I might not get the camera before I go on holiday.

From the reports I've read it's not easy but I'll give it a few days and then try.

Sheal, I have just had an email from them saying it has been dispatched and should receive it in 2/3 days time, we will wait and see!!

The mainly negative reviews were through googling 'Simply electronics delays' and came up with Trustpilot review forum which made me so sceptical as to whether I would get it in time for our holiday or not at all.
