I have just cut back my Campanula persicifolia flowering stems - any chance of a second flowering? They have only flowered for 3 weeks this year but averaged 10 weeks over the last 2 years.

I have also cut back my Campanula glomerata, again - will they reflower, and if not can anyone give me a good reason why I should grow it. The colour is nice but it is a thug and flowered for just three weeks. Should it flower longer in a wetter year.

I nearly pulled my glomerata out this year as I thought it was a weed, Martin convinced me not to and it has been a real joy in the damp shade.

Not sure about persicifolia - C Lloyd is always banging on about them, I have loads of campanulas but not sure which one it is, probably not one I have as it is biennial.

I am fed up with my campanulas this year as despite early support they have gone droopy on me. flowering like mad but in a real dogs dinner all over the rest of the plants.

Waco - I am envious of your damp garden - this year. Mine is just so dry, even when you dig down. So much so that I have had to soak it today - and all on a meter! I think the short flowering period of C. persicifolia must be due to the dry. I am hoping that it is a true perennial and not a biennial (mine are in their third year). I do like it, it has grace and poise. Here's a picture if you are not sure of it.

will come back to you on this peter, I think I may already have it now I have seen picture, I do have a packet of seeds never started.

I think Lloyd says they are perenial, but best treated a sbiennial, so would not worry.

    shame about water meter!

As no-one gave me a good reason to continue growing Campanulata glomerata - tonight I dug it all up. I have dug up every bit that I could find. It was only as I was putting it on the compost heap that I realised it was a native of Austria. I heard this voice in a gutteral Austrian accent saying "I'll be back"
