    Good morning people.
I'm wondering if there are any owners of camper vans out there?
At the moment, I'm the owner of a Landrover Defender 110 converted by me as a fishing wagon from times gone by, which I could sleep and cook in on my own and also a Jeep Grand Cherokee which was bought for ease of transport for Dad as he couldn't get into landrover after his fall. It's also only a two seater so missus didn't like being strapped to the roof rack!

The Jeep, though being lovely to drive, is a petrol guzzler with 12 or so mpg on my town journeys.
Many years ago, I owned 2 coach built campers that were past their best but provided lots of fun. Very basic but suited my needs.

I'm trying to convince the missus that it would be fun for us (and the dog) but she isn't keen! I'm thinking of outing both my vehicles and using the smallish camper for everyday duties.

    All thoughts and experiences appreciated.

    All the best, Russ

      Hi Russ,

I have moved this thread to hopefully get it some more views. I have no experience to offer, but must admit that I have always fancied the idea of converting a bus or coach into a motorhome/campervan (or RV as they are called in the US).

Some of the modern ones are eye-wateringly expensive, but I am sure that there will be some that are more sensibly priced.

Have you considered a roof extension?

Although I did see this thread a while ago, I've not been able to reply before today due to logging on problems that now appear to be sorted.

@Rustler why not try taking your missus somewhere in a hired van somewhere of her choice for a weekend? When she sees how good modern vans are, that should convince her that you are correct.

Hi @Sandy Ground. Yes, that is the current plan as well as finding some showrooms to show her the differences in designs. I'm sure I'll get her onside eventually.
                All the best,
                Russ

@Rustler We have just come back from a two week break in Wales and I took some photos of a VW camper van that was parked in a car park.It was I am sure sky blue in colour with either white or cream upholstery and it looked immaculate.I am pretty sure it was for sale and when I get my photos sorted I can post the photos on here if you are interested. There was a Mobile phone number not sure if it was being sold by someone living in Wales or whether it was someone visiting the country:smile:

As others have said it would be a good idea to hire one first to see what size would suit your needs as even the second hand ones can be rather expensive to buy

Try doing that using online ads also. That way, its possible to discuss the pros and cons of the various layouts of the habitation area in peace and quiet. The points that one person sees as advantageous are not necessarily the same as another.
