I'm taking my lot camping. In the last 40 years I've only ever been camping in two scenarios. 1. On my own land. 2. In a field hired for the exclusive use of our martial arts club, where everyone in the field is either a martial artist in our club, or a relative of someone in our club. In both scenarios security is of no concern.

So being an ordinary camper on an ordinary site is new to me.

Short of packing up for the day, how do you secure your pitch and kit if you go out somewhere?

I suppose on trust if you are on a recognised site, I camp at Ullswater and have not had any problem, it was on a farm site and I suppose everyone is in the same boat, just trust I suppose but these days who knows ?

As Jack says camping is done by trust . Just zip up your tent and lock and hide anything valuable in your car . Most sites are pretty good these days , although I do know someone who pitched the tent , went for a drink , on return the whole tent had gone !

I don't leave anything in a tent that would cause a load of inconvenience if nicked, always keep clothing in the car, only taking in of an evening what I need the following morning and I always keep my sleeping bag in the car during the day.

N.B. Wilkos camping gear is now half price, single airbeds £4, doubles £6.

It's all booked now. I'm just going to trust that people will behave themselves. As has been suggested I just won't leave anything valuable unattended.

Scrungee, good tip about wilkos, but we already have all the equipment we need.

All that remains to be done for now is to convince the missus that the day before we go should be a lazy day allowing plenty of time to pack and load up. She's already trying to schedule all sorts for my time off.

There's loads of stuff for both kids and adults to do down that way, we took our daughter there starting from 3 years old, and her last trip was 16 years later.

Loads up this way too. Only often cheaper to pitch up, cheaper beer and food while out and about, and half a tank of diesel for the round trip instead of two tanks.

                            Just got back.

Ended up not too far away, somewhere near Ripon and Bedale are Northallerton area. On the edge of Wensley dale apparently. It was really nice.
