Can any seeds be planted out now which love the shade?

One corner of my lawn gets a lot of shade from trees and bushes on two sides - are there any seeds for fast growing plants which can be planted out now in that shaded area?

Or maybe there are some plug plants which I could buy and plant out now?

I was thinking of planting some of my (many!) Cosmos seedlings in there but I understand that they don't grow or flower too well in the shade. Or is it worth giving them a go? Anything is better than nothing on the current bare patch of soil .....

I would buy plants - hardy geraniums, alchemilla mollis and tellima for starters. May be able to divide these when you plant them. Plenty of garden compost in the hole and water well fora few weeks. These will spread and self seed. the bare patch will soon be covered.

Thanks very much. Initially very tempted by the geraniums until I noticed that they are very poisonous to dogs (I have va number of dogs). I have a lot of the other two plants that you suggested which are scattered around my garden and wanted something with a lot of bright colours, Gernamiums would have been fine if not for the aforementioned problem.

Are there are colourful shade loving flowers which aren't poisonous to dogs?

    How about hardy Fuchsias ?

" Hawkshead " is a lovely pure white that always brightens up a shady corner. " Whiteknights Pearl " is similar but has a hint of pale pink in it as well.

Hellebores, japanese anenomes, dicentra, lithadora, begonias, lamium, pulmonaria & forget-me-nots.

I don't know if any of these are harmful to dogs though.

good suggestions above. but no seeds in shade will be "fast".
