Can heather be split?

Hi,

I was looking at my bushy heather and wondering if I could dig up a section to replant elsewhere?

I know it isn't exactly expensive but I'm going to have to trim it back a bit anyway as it is taking over a bit and wondered if I could get away with it without damaging the existing plant.

I have never split, the trick is either dig up and plant deeper with more fresh compost in and around the plant or scatter fresh compost in and around about two inches deep and each sepertae stalk will root and then you can cut them off with roots and pot up , you end up with loads of new plants that way

I have a hill of heaths and heathers. I only prune them back yearly. Would never split them. And if I were to transplant them I treat them like a small shrub.
