During my woodland, sunrise, walks with the dog(s), the native honeysuckle is in full bloom and the scent is almost intoxicating, definitely "in yer face" and absolutely delightful.

I tried to take a snip of a honeysuckle which I grew in my old garden (June time, 3 yrs ago; no idea what I was doing). Last year was the first signs that it had actually survived it's traumatic experience and showed some signs of life. This year, it has flourished and had stretched up the side of an arch and .... flowered! :dancy:

The first morning, of the first flower, at first light, I bent towards the blossom, inhaled and ... ah :wub2: what a gorgeous scent.

Later that day (around mid afternoon) I invited my ds19yo to inhale .... and he gave me a queer look :th scifD36: ... so I sniffed and ... nothing! No heavenly scent, no promising perfume :nonofinger: Boy, did I feel like a numpty turnip!

Couple of days later, this time, in the evening ... I bent once again to put nose to bloom: ahh! Delicious

So, after several days of testing, the results suggest:

    Early morning, scent is soaring.
Middle of day, it's gone away.
Evening calls, it returns once more:
    With a delicate, fragrant, underscore.

Which now begs the question: can honeysuckles tell the time?

Hi M yes I have a honeysuckle hedge all the way on one side of the garden and in the evenings it is just out of this world,This might explain the reason of the evening scent:)

        AHA!!!

Thank you, woo: you are a star (and I'm a dunder head  ).

That is great to learn because I have bats here :dbgrtmb: On second thoughts ... I think I read recently that moth numbers are in decline? Then again, so are pipistrelle bats? :wallbanging:

I think I will let the moths/bats fight it out for themselves and merely continue to propagate it and enjoy that evening and dawn scent to the full.
