We are digging up an are a at our rear wall. It has been overgrown for a wee while and we have lifted the "turf" up to a depth of around 6-8 inches. The weeds are mostly creeping buttercups(quite a lot of that in our margins) dandelions and the odd thistle. The turfs have been temporarily left to the side of our main compost heap in a temporary heap and I am not sure whether I can compost the turf due to all the weeds.

Any ideas on the best course of action. Should I compost or take it to the tip?

Stack the turf grass-side-down and leave it a year. It will make lovely loam. Ideally stop anything growing out of the sides (otherwise the Buttercup will keep itself alive :( Tarpaulin for example, or weedkiller periodically on anything that appears on the sides of the heap.

As Kristen says, shame to waste all that lovely top soil.
