I am having my wall raised. Along the wall are hundreds of spring bulbs just coming through.

Can I dig them up to avoid them being trampled when having the wall built or should I leave them in?

There are too many to re-pot and not sure if I dig them up now if this will damage the bulbs as they have already sprouted.

I think that as long as you make sure there is plent of soil around the root when you dig them up, they will not know that they have moved. If you leave them and they get trampled on then forget any flowers for this year and you will have to wait until next spring. Pays your money, takes your chance [IMG]

If you cannot immediately replant either in the ground or in pots, then find somewhere cool, dark and frost free to store them until you can. They will last like this for a week or so as long as they are in damp soil. If you are going to have to leave them out for any longer then the chances of them not surviving are geater.

As mentioned above, big shovel lots of soil, dig a new trench, and plant, I have done similar things. Quite often a plant will outgrow its original position and moving it with as much of the rootball as possible will not adversely effect it. Building a wall will trample the ground quite badly and with no plants in there it will be easier to tidy up afterwards.
