Can I put cow manure in my compost bin?

    I walk the dogs in a huge cow field and obviously there's a plentiful supply of manure :blue thumb:

    Is there any problem with me putting a few cowpats straight in my compost bin?

    No. Should generate heat and get the compost heap going quicker / faster. Not too much in a single "layer" though.

    I'll collect the dry ones and break them up before adding them to the compost.

    It will make great compost eventually, as Kristen says you need to layer it with grass clippings, weeds, etc.


    This is another item to add to my list of things gardeners do that are out of the ordinary. How are you going to carry them home, a pizza box might do :lunapic 130165696578242 5:

      I'm going to take some carrier bags and double bag them. Some of the other dog walkers may think I'm a bit bonkers though :snork:
