Hi just a quick question for all the experts[emoji1]

We put in a new patio area last year which raised the level by about a foot. I have an existing laburnum tree in the border by the side. I'm hoping to fill the border up to the level of the patio. Do I need to keep the soil / compost away from the trunk of the laburnum or is it ok to effectively bury part of the trunk.

    Thanks

    Tommy

I saw this which might help -

"Do not cover or bury the trunk or root systems. When you cover the truck, what happens is that the tree will develop exfoliating rooting (this becomes the trees new root system). This is a weaker root system which does not supply the tree with what it needs for survival. Plus other factors can happen as well, you bury the trunk and you damage the bark which causes an infection. You always want to be able to see a root collar at the bottom of the trunk. "
