I fed my lawn 5 weeks ago with Scotts weed and feed (Non scorching). It showed none of the usual signs of perking up at all. I fact the lawn is not looking great at all. It has a a yellow colour in places and is nowhere near as good as it was last year. I water it often and don't cut it to short. Never have .

The weed and feed I used was given to me in an unopened bag but I suspect it was quite old.

Could this be the fault ? Honestly its as if it was never done !

I'm tempted to aerate it with a fork then feed it again even though it was done 5 weeks ago .

    Thoughts please ?

    Thanks
    Charlie.

I would have thought it was alright as long as it looked and felt right ie it hadnt become wet i storage.
Personally I dont use feed and weed as i think its a bit brutal and some clover in the lawn attracts the birds in which I encourage.
Maybe give it a dose of liquid iron sulphite. It will blacken the moss and green up the lawn or if moss aint a problem just a milder solution to green up the grass. The stuff works a treat on mine and boy is it cheap and long lasting when compared to these feed and weed treatments.Goodluck.

It was bone dry and spread from the Scott's feeder just fine Tam.. But honestly it hasn't done a thing !!

The soil here in the Vale is superb. Everything is growing at an extraordinary rate except my lawn .... Mmmmm

Maybe it got scorched ? It might be worth getting some new fresh seed and over seeding your lawn. Maybe as you say the stuff you got was just DUFF ?

Sorry folks, yes it does goes out of date, I've got the same problem at the moment with using old weed and feed, it's not done a thing, so time to oust it and buy new. Don't forget it has to be watered in and don't use it in drought conditions unless you are prepared to water the lawn regularly afterwards. :)

While all fertilisers have a shelf life the yellowing is a sign of a problem developing.
Last 2 years has seen a great deal of red thread for example, did you have signs of this in previous years?
Was there patches of increased growth which left the yellowing spots sticking out?
